How to Install MetaMask
Installing MetaMask takes just a few minutes. Follow our step-by-step guide to properly set up your wallet and ensure the security of your funds.
Installing Browser Extension
The most popular way to use MetaMask is to install the extension in your browser:
- Go to the official website metamask.io official website metamask.io
- Click the "Download" button
- Select your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge)
- You will be redirected to the extension store — click "Install"
- After installation, click on the fox icon in the browser toolbar
First Launch and Wallet Creation
After installing the extension, you need to create a new wallet:
- Click "Get Started"
- Select "Create a Wallet"
- Set a password for quick access (minimum 8 characters)
- Read and accept the terms of use
Secret Phrase — the Most Important Thing!
After creating the wallet, you will see your secret phrase of 12 words:
- Write down the words on paper in the same order as shown
- Never save the phrase digitally (screenshots, notes in phone)
- Never show or send your phrase to anyone
- Store the record in a safe place (safe, hiding place)
- Confirm the phrase by selecting words in the correct order
Warning: Anyone who knows your secret phrase has full access to your funds!
Installing Mobile Application
MetaMask is available on iOS and Android:
- Download MetaMask from App Store or Google Play
- Choose "Create a new wallet" or "Import"
- Follow the on-screen instructions
- Be sure to write down the secret recovery phrase
Network Configuration
By default, MetaMask is connected to the Ethereum network. To add other networks:
- Click on the network dropdown menu at the top of the interface
- Select "Add network"
- Choose the desired network from popular ones or add manually
- For automatic network addition, you can use sites like chainlist.org
Checking the Work
After installation and setup, check the wallet:
- Copy your wallet address (click on the account name)
- Send a small amount for testing (from another wallet or exchange)
- Make sure the funds arrived at your address
- Try connecting to a dApp (e.g., Uniswap)
